Dinner for Six

I invited five friends for dinner on Friday and planned to cook vegetable pasta. An hour before they arrived, my cooker stopped working. I checked the power, but the screen stayed dark. Ordering six meals would cost too much.

I called my neighbour Rosa. ‘Can I use your cooker for twenty minutes?’ I asked. She was cooking too, so there was no space. Then she suggested using the barbecue in our shared garden. The evening was cool, but dry.

My friends arrived and helped carry everything outside. We grilled vegetables and bread, and Rosa joined us with her salad. The accident created a better meal than the one I had planned.
